Responsibilities

Lead the migration from a Mongo-centric resource data model to a schema-aware, Postgres-backed architecture while maintaining backward compatibility and customer integrations.
Drive technical solutions across dependent engineering teams and define multi-quarter architectural roadmaps through delivery.
Design reliable, high-throughput ingestion and streaming infrastructure for terabyte-scale data across distributed systems.
Build the Query API into a production platform with schema versioning, joins, exports, tenant isolation, and predictable latency.
Design for eventual consistency using idempotent session handling, conditional writes, reconciliation, and explicit backpressure.
Set architectural direction for Kafka and event queuing, Redis caching, and Postgres and MongoDB persistent storage.
Diagnose production issues such as hot partitions, unbounded fan-out, and online rewrites of continuously written tables.
Mentor senior engineers through design reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on work on complex systems.
Champion reliability, observability, and operational hygiene across Vanta’s data infrastructure.

Requirements

Proven experience leading platform migration initiatives between major architecture versions while maintaining backward compatibility and availability.
Strong command of Kafka or equivalent streaming and queuing infrastructure, including partitioning, consumer groups, redelivery, and idempotency.
Deep industry experience in distributed systems and data-pipeline engineering at enterprise scale, including terabyte-scale ingestion and high-throughput event processing.
Experience with relational and document data modeling at scale using Postgres and MongoDB, including query planning, connection pooling, and online schema changes.
Experience collaborating with engineering leadership on multi-quarter technical roadmaps and driving them to delivery.
Solid AWS fundamentals and comfort working with TypeScript and Node.
Ability to explain complex systems tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences and align cross-functional partners.
Curiosity and sound judgment in using AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
