Staff Software Engineer (L4) in Remote new

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services for Twilio Flex’s high-scale TaskRouter system.
  • Own the technical direction and architectural vision for business-critical backend services running on AWS.
  • Lead distributed-systems design covering scalability, data architecture, fault isolation, and migration strategy.
  • Improve availability and resilience for Tier 0 systems while balancing reliability, cost, and delivery speed.
  • Partner with engineering, platform, and product teams to align designs and resolve shared dependencies.
  • Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship of senior and mid-level engineers.
  • Drive operational excellence through observability, gamedays, incident response, and permanent remediation of recurring issues.
  • Influence roadmap priorities and represent the team’s technical direction across the organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience writing production-grade backend code in a modern programming language such as Java, Golang, Python, Scala, or similar.
  • Experience building fault-tolerant distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and database designs.
  • Experience with AWS cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and building high-scale, low-latency APIs.
  • Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or similar database technologies.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for complex distributed applications.
  • Experience shipping services following a CI/CD development paradigm.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and problem-solving in a rapidly growing company.
  • Preferred experience with Kafka, Pulsar, or similar event-streaming technologies.
  • Preferred familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Preferred knowledge of Linux systems and networking concepts.
  • Preferred experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale.
  • Preferred experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
  • Preferred experience working in geographically distributed teams.
