Responsibilities

  • Set AI architecture direction through reference architectures, design principles, and trade-off decisions across quality, autonomy, reliability, latency, cost, and complexity.
  • Define evaluation datasets, methods, regression checks, quality thresholds, and processes for connecting evaluations to production outcomes.
  • Guide production readiness practices for tracing, observability, versioning, monitoring, incident response, privacy, security, and lifecycle management.
  • Create reusable patterns, reference implementations, and guidance while coaching engineers through architecture reviews.
  • Partner with product, operations, and domain teams to identify workflow needs and measure AI outcomes.
  • Prototype high-risk or foundational designs, review critical implementations, and refine architecture using production evidence.
  • Evaluate models, agent runtimes, orchestration approaches, and evaluation tooling and recommend adoption based on evidence.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of backend software development experience.
  • At least 3 years of AI architecture experience with demonstrated organization-wide impact.
  • Strong experience designing and delivering production software systems, including substantial work on AI/ML-powered products or services.
  • Track record of setting technical direction across teams and influencing decisions through evidence and collaboration.
  • Practical understanding of LLM applications, retrieval and context construction, tool use, agent patterns, model selection, and failure handling.
  • Experience defining AI quality expectations and building evaluations that connect offline results to production outcomes.
  • Experience with observability, privacy, security, reliability, cost, latency, and safe human escalation in production systems.
  • Clear communication across engineering, product, and executive audiences, with hands-on prototyping and implementation review experience.
  • Helpful experience includes establishing shared AI platforms or architecture standards, creating evaluation datasets and test harnesses, operating AI products with measurable outcomes, and working with cloud AI platforms, model APIs, agent frameworks, tracing and evaluation tools, and data platforms.

Benefits

  • Annual pay range of $129,600-$288,000 USD; the range may include base salary and target incentive compensation for roles with on-target earnings.
  • Starting pay considers work location, skills and experience, market demands, and internal parity.
  • Candidates may request human evaluation instead of AI-assisted resume review, without affecting candidacy evaluation.
