Responsibilities

  • Define cross-team technical strategy, architecture, and a multi-year roadmap for backend services supporting Stripe’s merchant-facing experiences.
  • Lead the design and delivery of scalable backend services for the Dashboard, mobile applications, and other user interfaces.
  • Build reusable platform capabilities that help product teams develop, operate, and improve their products.
  • Partner with engineers, product managers, and designers to connect design systems, software development kits, APIs, and backend services.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Typically 10+ years of experience building complex, reliable, scalable APIs or distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the technical design and delivery of large projects spanning multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience setting technical direction and translating strategy into an executable roadmap.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs to engineers, cross-functional partners, and senior leadership.
  • Preferred experience with backend-for-frontend systems, frontend platform services, developer platforms, design systems, or UI infrastructure.
  • Preferred experience using agentic development workflows and working with feature flagging, experimentation, telemetry, or analytics systems.
