Staff Software Engineer, Data Engineering in UK

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of platform capabilities for ingestion, transformation, governance, and data quality
  • Define Databricks pipeline patterns and reference architectures while building production flows and prototypes
  • Establish standards for data quality, governance, data contracts, lineage, and validation frameworks
  • Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives spanning multiple quarters and teams from problem definition through delivery
  • Develop initial AI capabilities for pipeline operations, automated transformation generation, and self-serve analytics
  • Raise code quality and engineering judgment across the team and mentor senior engineers

Requirements

  • 10+ years of data engineering experience architecting and operating data platforms at scale while remaining hands-on
  • Deep expertise in Databricks, including Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and Spark
  • Experience owning ingestion, transformation, governance, and data quality across a production platform
  • Expertise in SQL and Python for data modeling, transformation, and platform tooling
  • Strong AWS experience operating data systems at scale
  • Track record of setting technical standards, patterns, and reference architectures for other engineers
  • Experience building AI tooling for data engineering workflows, including agentic systems, LLM integrations, or conversational analytics
  • Ability to influence through technical credibility and communicate tradeoffs to engineers and leadership
