Responsibilities

  • Own architecture and multi-quarter technical roadmaps for a core platform area.
  • Lead large, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives from problem framing through delivery, rollout, or migration.
  • Author and review RFCs, conduct design reviews, and make build-versus-buy and technical-debt decisions.
  • Set standards for reliability, security, data integrity, incident response, change management, and audit readiness.
  • Scale the orchestration layer for higher verification volume across more than 80 vendors, including throughput, latency, failover, and cost improvements.
  • Shape the developer platform through service boundaries, shared libraries, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Bring AI agent systems to production with evaluation, guardrails, human-in-the-loop workflows, and supporting data pipelines.
  • Prototype risky components, unblock critical paths, and ship production code.
  • Mentor senior engineers, develop technical leads, and help raise engineering standards.
  • Partner with founders, engineering managers, product, compliance experts, and enterprise customers on strategy, architecture, security reviews, and integrations.
  • Help hire engineers by designing interviews, calibrating the hiring bar, and closing senior candidates.

Requirements

  • At least 9 years of experience building and operating production systems, including at least 2 years at Staff-level scope.
  • Track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives from ambiguous problems to shipped and adopted results.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems and backend architecture, including service design, data modeling, API design, event-driven systems, consistency trade-offs, and failure modes.
  • Experience designing, scaling, and operating high-throughput, high-reliability systems and carrying the pager for them.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript/Node.js, with the ability to work across the stack as needed.
  • Strong technical writing skills for RFCs, design documents, and postmortems.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and measurably raising engineering standards.
  • Preferred experience in FinTech, RegTech, payments, identity verification, fraud or risk detection, KYC/KYB, AML, or sanctions screening.
  • Preferred experience operating platforms integrating dozens of third-party vendors, including response normalization, failover, rate limits, and vendor observability.
  • Preferred experience shipping production LLM or ML systems, including evaluation, guardrails, cost and latency management, or document intelligence.
  • Preferred security and compliance engineering experience, including SOC 2 or ISO 27001, data residency, encryption, or audit trails.
  • Preferred experience helping an engineering team grow while maintaining quality and velocity.
  • Frontend experience with React and TypeScript is preferred.
