Staff Software Engineer, Backend in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, scalability, and reliability of build pipelines across multiple services and platforms.
  • Optimize build times, test coverage, reporting, and developer feedback cycles.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response for continuous integration systems.
  • Improve developer productivity through tooling, automation, integrations, and engineering best practices.
  • Drive the vision and strategy for continuous integration and developer productivity infrastructure.
  • Lead and mentor CI engineers and partner with engineering leadership on technical direction.

Requirements

  • Proven experience driving and leading engineering efforts in continuous integration, build systems, or developer productivity.
  • Strong experience with modern build systems such as GitHub, Buildkite, and Artifactory.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Strong programming experience in Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar languages.
  • Experience managing build systems and frameworks for large monorepos.
  • Ability to make technical decisions, balance long-term vision with short-term impact, and solve complex systems challenges.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Active open-source contribution or large-scale software development experience at a leading technology company is preferred.
