Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for complex initiatives across device APIs, event pipelines, device lifecycle management, transport infrastructure, and partner-facing platform capabilities.
  • Lead architectural design and produce design documents covering tradeoffs, constraints, service boundaries, and long-term implications.
  • Define and evolve shared platform patterns, API contracts, event schemas, frameworks, libraries, and reusable components adopted by multiple teams.
  • Lead autonomous end-to-end delivery of large, multi-engineer initiatives from design through implementation, validation, and production readiness.
  • Improve team effectiveness through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, mentoring, and technical coaching.
  • Drive cross-team technical alignment and represent platform interests in councils, working groups, design reviews, and dependency discussions.
  • Establish production-readiness, observability, reliability, SLA, monitoring, and support standards and contribute to incident response and postmortems.
  • Use and promote AI-assisted development tools while rigorously validating generated code for correctness, security, edge cases, and maintainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
  • Experience leading large, multi-engineer technical initiatives from architecture through delivery with substantial autonomy.
  • Experience creating reusable platform patterns, shared libraries, or integration frameworks adopted by other engineers.
  • Strong architectural judgment concerning service boundaries, domain ownership, failure modes, versioning, and maintainability.
  • Deep backend platform engineering proficiency with RESTful and/or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures such as Kafka, and shared platform design.
  • Experience moving from tightly coupled systems toward domain-aligned, independently deployable services.
  • Ability to anticipate medium-term technical problems and proactively drive solutions.
  • Track record of influencing experienced engineers through technical councils, working groups, and cross-team design reviews.
  • Ability to collaborate credibly with architects and engineering managers on complex cross-team initiatives.
  • Positive buy-in toward AI-assisted development and practical familiarity with AI-supported implementation, debugging, and documentation workflows.
  • Preferred: strong .NET/C# and SQL Server experience; partner-facing APIs or integration platforms; Kafka or similar event streaming; device, IoT, or lifecycle-management systems; microservice or domain-aligned architecture; observability, incident management, and production operations; GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code; Model Context Protocol; and department-wide technical standards or architecture decision records.

Salary: $144k - $169k/yr
