Staff Software Engineer, Android Infrastructure in USA

Responsibilities

  • Drive application and mobile infrastructure and quality as a platform to improve consistency, scalability, and developer velocity.
  • Lead engineering efforts to eliminate crashes, improve state-sync latency, and resolve functional detractors.
  • Monitor and improve application latency, memory footprint, crash rates, and crash-free user rates.
  • Guide migration to the Google Home Platform and deprecate legacy systems.
  • Oversee deployment pipelines, build and release flags, and on-call operations.
  • Move the organization toward automated, self-service infrastructure delivery for vertical teams and major launches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Eight years of software development experience.
  • Five years of experience testing and launching software products focused on Android systems or Android architecture.
  • Five years of full-stack development experience across back-end Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases and front-end JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Three years of software design and architecture experience.
  • Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead and architect, setting architectural direction, and mentoring senior engineers across multiple work streams.
  • Experience managing complex system health issues, app reliability, and large-scale technical migrations.
  • Experience implementing automated regression testing.
  • Strong product sense and interest in smart-home technologies, IoT, Matter, Thread, BLE, and user satisfaction.
  • Experience driving cross-functional initiatives and improving engineering velocity through infrastructure automation.

Benefits

  • US base salary of $207000 - $300000 plus a 20% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
  • Work focuses on the Google Home ecosystem, including Core Mobile, Smart Displays, and Cross-Surfaces.
