Staff Frontend Engineer - Performance Monitoring in Australia

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain lightweight SDKs, dashboards, and CI/PR checks that surface LCP, INP, and CLS performance metrics.
  • Embed OpenTelemetry standards and extend data pipelines ingesting billions of real-user events daily.
  • Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to create low-overhead metric collection and reusable libraries, CLIs, and tools.
  • Build regression checks that statistically flag or block slower changes and provide developer-friendly diff reports.
  • Profile, reproduce, and eliminate systemic performance bottlenecks using Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, and similar tools.
  • Analyze real-user and synthetic data to identify high-return opportunities for performance improvements.
  • Lead performance-monitoring engineering practices, shape team culture, and guide engineering practices across stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience designing, building, and shipping rich JavaScript/TypeScript and React interfaces.
  • Comfort working with Node-based services and tools, data pipelines, and modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Ability to design statistically sound experiments and use data to guide decisions.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining performance data to engineers, product managers, executives, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders, align priorities, and drive action across product, platform, and leadership organizations.
  • Preferred: deep knowledge of web rendering pipelines, main-thread bottlenecks, network protocols, and performance APIs.
  • Preferred: hands-on large-scale observability or Real User Monitoring experience with systems such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Looker, or Mode.
  • Preferred: strong TypeScript proficiency across client- and server-side code.
