Responsibilities

  • Shape the technical direction, architecture, roadmap, and emerging-technology strategy of the Data Platform group.
  • Own difficult technical problems involving Spark performance and cost, Iceberg table management, Kafka ingestion, and low-latency StarRocks analytics.
  • Evolve the Spark SQL platform and shared framework code used across R&D.
  • Drive the evolution of the Iceberg-based lakehouse from ingestion through storage, compaction, and serving.
  • Own the production health of the main business-critical data pipeline and lead incident deep-dives and postmortems.
  • Write production code, build prototypes, and validate new technologies before adoption.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing, while helping develop technical leaders.
  • Set engineering standards for design, code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with technical leaders, managers, and stakeholders across algorithm, product, finance, and infrastructure teams.
  • Represent the group in architecture forums, hiring, open-source communities, and conference talks.
  • Introduce agent-based engineering workflows, measure their impact, and support AI adoption across the group.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with deep expertise in Java or an equivalent JVM/object-oriented language.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Apache Spark internals, Spark SQL, the Catalyst optimizer, and large-scale performance and cost tuning.
  • Production experience with Apache Iceberg or another open table format such as Delta Lake or Hudi, including table design, partitioning, compaction, and metadata/catalog management.
  • Deep expertise in Apache Kafka internals, partitioning, delivery semantics, and high-throughput production pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with StarRocks or a similar MPP or real-time analytics engine such as Druid, ClickHouse, or Trino.
  • Experience designing, building, and owning large-scale distributed data systems end to end, from architecture through production reliability.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers and developing technical leaders through reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
  • Highly proficient with Linux and Kubernetes in production.
  • Ability to influence without authority and align teams, managers, and stakeholders.
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred experience includes open-source data-project contributions, technical talks or writing, GPU Spark with RAPIDS, stream processing with Spark Structured Streaming, Kafka Streams, or Flink, dbt, Airflow, Ansible, Puppet, AI-agent engineering workflows, and familiarity with ML training pipelines.
