Responsibilities

  • Own the shared platform layer across the Patient Care Application, AWS, vendor integrations, Postgres, Snowflake, GitHub, CI/CD, and other critical systems.
  • Design and improve scalable, reliable, secure cloud infrastructure and establish reusable engineering patterns and conventions.
  • Build core Ruby on Rails services for authorization/RBAC, jobs and queues, deployments, integrations, and other shared capabilities.
  • Operate foundational platform, IAM, HIE, EMR, and integration infrastructure beneath product teams.
  • Improve developer experience by removing infrastructure bottlenecks and creating reliable self-service workflows.
  • Support scale across engineering teams, products, integrations, and infrastructure while troubleshooting production systems and improving resilience.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams and set technical standards and architectural conventions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience as a high-performing individual contributor building and operating production backend systems.
  • Deep Ruby on Rails expertise across application and data layers, including hands-on development and maintenance of core backend services.
  • Strong relational database skills in data modeling, query optimization, query plans, slow-query and N+1 remediation, and indexing.
  • Experience building and operating platform capabilities such as authentication/RBAC, jobs and queues, CI/CD, deployments, integrations, and shared services.
  • Ability to work across application and infrastructure layers, either as an application engineer comfortable with infrastructure or a cloud/platform engineer willing to work deeply in Rails.
  • Proven experience with major Rails upgrades, database migrations, zero-downtime schema changes, large-scale data backfills, dependency upgrades, and security remediation.
  • Experience maintaining current production dependencies and packages through ongoing upgrades.
  • Strong systems thinking, technical judgment, ownership, execution, pragmatic problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • AWS and Terraform experience are a plus but are not required.
