Responsibilities

Own major projects in the dual execution stack so DuckDB can process queries locally or in the cloud.
Build cloud-platform capabilities for dynamic resource assignment across workloads and instance sizes.
Lead cross-functional work with frontend, platform, infrastructure, and support teams.
Improve embedded database performance, distributed execution, DuckDB internals, and overall system architecture.
Debug issues with the support team, prioritize improvements from real usage patterns, and address architectural bottlenecks.
Mentor teammates, document expertise, improve engineering practices, and collaborate with DuckDB Labs and the wider DuckDB community.

Requirements

Experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
Fluency in C++, Rust, Java, or a similar systems language, with comfort working close to the metal.
Foundation in query engines, execution plans, indexing, and performance optimization.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, networking, and low-latency distributed systems.
Ability to scope and lead projects across multiple collaborators and cross-functional dependencies.
Strong judgment in system design, tradeoffs, mentoring, and collaborative engineering.
Hands-on DuckDB experience is highly preferred but not required.
