Responsibilities

Design and build distributed systems that execute Mixpanel customer queries.
Contribute to technical designs and deliver complex projects from prototype through global rollout.
Develop systems for elastic query compute, distributed file caching, columnar storage internals, and compaction.
Own projects or significant components end to end, including design, implementation, production launch, and operations.
Collaborate with Query Serving, Streaming, Data Foundation, Core Analysis, Product, and AI-powered experiences teams.
Operate production systems and make reliability, performance, and cost tradeoffs at scale.
Use written design documents, code reviews, dashboards, demos, and AI-assisted development tools to drive execution.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating data infrastructure or backend systems.
Solid foundation in distributed systems or data infrastructure.
Demonstrated ownership of projects or significant components from design through production operation.
Experience with technical communication, including design documents, code reviews, and asynchronous collaboration.
Sound judgment regarding technical tradeoffs based on operating production systems.
Experience or knowledge with Go, C/C++, Python, SQL, distributed systems, storage and query engines, caching, performance engineering, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and reliability practices.
Ability to work with technologies and concepts including sharding, partitioning, replication, distributed scheduling, work fanout/merge, consistent hashing, columnar formats, indexing, compression, profiling, concurrency, memory management, benchmarking, observability, SLOs, and incident management.
Interest in using LLM tooling to accelerate development, triage, and operations.
Strong ownership, accountability, technical depth, and written communication.
