Senior Software Engineer, Risk in USA new

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test infrastructure capabilities for existing and emerging Risk products.
  • Lead projects end-to-end from technical design through rollout in partnership with engineering, product management, design, data science, and operations.
  • Develop and scale Gusto’s Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
  • Serve as a domain expert for Risk platform capabilities and mentor earlier-career engineers.
  • Set stakeholder expectations, communicate project updates, and manage technical tradeoffs.
  • Identify and execute technical debt and quality improvements.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to reliability, security, and performance incidents, and prioritize postmortem actions.
  • Improve team productivity through tools, patterns, and documentation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and documentation and reviewing and correcting AI-generated work.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing production-quality code and architecture for technically or organizationally complex projects.
  • Experience owning projects from technical design through rollout while coordinating with product, design, and data partners.
  • Ability to set technical direction, make tradeoffs, communicate technical complexity, and bring clarity to ambiguous problems.
  • Experience building maintainable, structured, well-documented, fault-tolerant, and reliable software.
  • Interest in collaborative, test-driven engineering environments.
