Senior Software Engineer, Payments in USA

Responsibilities

  • Prototype and implement scalable, performant software solutions for cross-border payment transactions.
  • Design and deliver complex features within large-scale, regulated systems.
  • Build and operate cloud-native, highly available distributed backend systems.
  • Define clear, reusable API service contracts and integrations.
  • Navigate and reduce technical debt while managing feature-level migration efforts.
  • Own technical delivery for complex features and influence local and cross-team engineering decisions.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to engineers.
  • Encourage engineering standards and collaborate with product, legal, and business development teams.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience with a deep focus on backend systems.
  • Deep hands-on experience building and operating modern, cloud-native, highly available distributed systems.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering complex features in large-scale, complex, regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems architectures, trade-offs, and payment transaction challenges.
  • Excellent understanding of Java and its ecosystem, including threading and concurrency.
  • Strong API design and integration skills, including REST and/or gRPC.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and ECS.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership and ability to influence cross-team decisions.
  • Preferred experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Candidates with Go, Kotlin, C#, Python, or Rust experience may be considered if they can learn JVM technologies quickly.
  • Preferred experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka, SNS, or SQS.

Salary: $172k - $215k/yr
