Senior Frontend Engineer, Media in USA

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement frontend and backend solutions for Reddit’s web media player and its supporting APIs.
  • Contribute to the full development lifecycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Collaborate with product, design, client engineering, and platform engineering teams to deliver media features and improve global performance.
  • Review code and design documents, provide feedback on product specifications and mocks, and establish developer workflow best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help grow their technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least five years of hands-on professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript, React, Next.js, and TypeScript, including translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications.
  • Experience designing and implementing maintainable APIs using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and basic Thrift.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, delivery, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Preferred familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming, MPEG-DASH, MP4, H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1, background data fetching, and media streaming metrics such as QoE and buffering rates.

Salary: $190k - $267k/yr
