Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain security baselines, hardening standards, guardrails, least-privilege access, vulnerability controls, and secure machine image pipelines across AWS, Google Cloud, Linux, and self-hosted services.
  • Own identity, access, secrets, certificate, network, logging, monitoring, and observability architecture and automate provisioning, compliance evidence, inventory, and control verification.
  • Define service health indicators and service-level objectives, engineer automated recovery, own backup and disaster recovery, and lead availability and security incident response through post-incident follow-up.
  • Lead migration and retirement of legacy or duplicative cloud services and manage cloud and high-performance computing cost attribution, budgets, alerts, and resource guardrails.
  • Write and maintain platform and security automation, lead infrastructure and code reviews, mentor engineers, document systems, and guide build-versus-buy and lifecycle decisions.
  • Collaborate with nuclear, scientific, engineering, and non-software teams to translate security and reliability requirements into maintainable technical controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in platform, infrastructure, cloud, security, site reliability engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, securing, and operating production cloud infrastructure, with strong AWS experience.
  • Strong Linux administration, hardening, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, configuration management, and programming or scripting.
  • Experience implementing access management, network security, secrets management, vulnerability management, security monitoring, recovery, and incident-response capabilities.
  • Ability to make maintainable technical tradeoffs involving security, reliability, performance, cost, and complexity and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Google Cloud, cloud cost management, high-performance computing, Slurm, Open OnDemand, MPI, GPU-enabled workloads, Docker, Apptainer, self-hosted engineering services, vulnerability and patch automation, control-evidence automation, and scientific or engineering computing experience are desirable.
  • An advanced degree in a related technical field is desirable.
