Senior Back End Engineer, Platform in USA

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and scale backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
  • Implement highly distributed and resilient architectures in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
  • Create shared infrastructure services and tooling used across Altruist’s product teams.
  • Mentor and guide teams on secure coding practices and resilient, performant code.
  • Use automated testing practices to maintain high-quality code.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Work independently while contributing to a collaborative Platform team.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience building scalable backend services at a B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organization.
  • Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
  • Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Strong SQL knowledge, including Postgres and MySQL.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Understanding of performant and reliable systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn modern technology stacks such as Kubernetes, Kafka, Temporal, and Snowflake.
  • Preferred experience with AI best practices, particularly Claude.
  • Preferred experience with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, with GitLab as a plus.
  • Familiarity with Debezium, Temporal, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Knowledge of brokerage platforms and the financial services industry.
  • A relevant B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred, but equivalent experience and understanding are valued.

  • $170,000–$215,000 annual salary range for Los Angeles, California.
