Responsibilities

Lead developers and cross-functional partners in building infrastructure and product capabilities.
Own architectural direction for authentication, authorization, permissions, and multi-entity organizational hierarchy.
Lead large end-to-end initiatives and core architecture changes across the platform.
Define technical strategy for problems affecting multiple parts of the business.
Mentor developers through code pairing and code, architecture, and project reviews.
Champion development, deployment, and software quality practices.
Use AI tools and agentic workflows to improve development velocity and pioneer new engineering approaches.

Requirements

Extensive experience defining and implementing high-scale SaaS solutions.
Deep experience with identity and access architecture, authentication, permissions models, and organizational hierarchy in multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
Experience with tiered web applications, mobile, API design patterns, Java, Kotlin, React, and data analytics.
Experience designing integrations across high-scale, data-rich enterprise systems.
Strong enthusiasm for agentic development practices, LLM integration, and modern software paradigms.
Proven ability to build partnerships across engineering, product, customer success, and other stakeholder groups.
Experience mentoring peers and maintaining a high standard for technical quality.

Benefits

Base salary ranges from $180,000 to $368,000 per year depending on geographic pay zone, skills, experience, and location.
Additional total rewards may include overtime, bonus or commissions if eligible, equity, and benefits.
Toast offers a hybrid work model with regional in-office expectations; the posting is also marked remote.
