OS/Platform Software Engineer (Starlink) in USA

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update in-house branches of Linux, Buildroot, and U-Boot.
  • Support secure boot and runtime security for Linux-based satellite components.
  • Maintain spacecraft Ethernet networking and connectivity.
  • Develop, deploy, and test spacecraft software update processes.
  • Support in-house systems-on-chip and peripheral components throughout their lifecycles.
  • Develop and support device drivers for third-party and in-house components.
  • Support OS and platform-specific test infrastructure.
  • Bring new satellite components into the software team and support them through on-orbit operations.
  • Collaborate with silicon, electrical, and application software engineers to transition hardware from prototype to operational deployment.
  • Own the complete software lifecycle, including development, testing, and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a science discipline, or at least two years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree; internship experience is applicable.
  • Development experience in C, C++, Python, and/or Rust.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel upstream patches and the Linux networking stack is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer architecture and modern secure boot flows is preferred.
  • Experience with ARM embedded systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and continuous monitoring is preferred.
  • Strong debugging, performance optimization, and unit-testing skills are preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a changing environment are preferred.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must meet applicable ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements.

Benefits

  • Base salary range is $125,000.00-$165,000.00 for Level 1 and $145,000.00-$200,000.00 for Level 2.
  • Potential eligibility for company stock or long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

  • Employees may accrue three weeks of paid vacation and receive 10 or more paid holidays annually.
  • Washington State employees accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law.
  • Company shuttles provide weekday roundtrip transportation from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office.
