Firmware Engineer I in Others new

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for current and next-generation Axon devices.
  • Develop firmware for Embedded Linux and Embedded Android on SoCs and SoMs.
  • Develop software for microcontrollers and RTOS-based systems.
  • Work with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, Sub-GHz, and cellular connectivity technologies.
  • Develop battery, power, and thermal-management firmware with a focus on reliability and safety.
  • Support board bring-up, hardware integration, and debugging with Electrical Engineering.
  • Develop unit, integration, and automated tests and contribute to test infrastructure.
  • Develop manufacturing, provisioning, calibration, and device-support tooling as needed.
  • Write and review design documents, pull requests, test plans, and technical documentation.
  • Diagnose firmware and hardware issues using logs, debugging tools, measurements, and root-cause analysis.
  • Own assigned technical areas through design, implementation, validation, and production support.
  • Collaborate with Firmware, Embedded Product, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Compliance, and external technology vendors.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0–2 years of relevant industry experience developing firmware or embedded software, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
  • Programming experience in one or more of C, C++, Rust, Golang, or Python.
  • Hands-on firmware or embedded software experience for IoT, consumer electronics, robotics, automotive, networking, or similar products.
  • Knowledge of Embedded Linux, including kernel and user-space concepts; Yocto, Buildroot, or OpenWRT experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems, concurrency, IPC, networking, and computer architecture.
  • Ability to read and reason about datasheets, schematics, registers, and hardware interfaces.
  • Understanding of I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, USB, and Ethernet.
  • Foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Ability to independently investigate problems, identify root causes, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Collaboration skills and willingness to work across engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with AI coding assistants or agentic tools, or ability to learn them quickly.
  • Ability to write specifications with acceptance and test criteria and evaluate AI-generated output, including identifying plausible but incorrect results.
  • Willingness to verify AI-generated code, especially register-, timing-, memory-, and safety-relevant code.
  • Preferred experience with Embedded Android/AOSP, RTOS, microcontroller firmware, cellular LTE/5G modems, battery and power-management systems, robotics and sensors, manufacturing or provisioning software, or automated hardware/firmware test systems.
