Responsibilities

  • Own the portable libraries problem space across iOS, Android, and web.
  • Build production-grade libraries in Rust and C++ that are fast, safe, and reliable across Canva’s supported devices.
  • Design interfaces, safety models, APIs, and developer ergonomics for engineers consuming the libraries across runtimes.
  • Work with Staff engineers to shape Mobile Platform’s technical direction while remaining heavily hands-on.
  • Communicate technical designs through documentation and collaborate with frontend engineers consuming the libraries.
  • Set technical patterns and standards for the broader mobile engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Production experience building mobile software on both iOS and Android.
  • Production experience shipping Rust code; experience with Rust or C++ for portable libraries.
  • Knowledge of native interop between system languages and iOS, Android, and JavaScript runtimes.
  • Experience with cross-platform architecture, ABI boundaries, memory safety across language barriers, and foreign-function interfaces.
  • Experience designing library APIs that feel native to mobile and frontend engineers.
  • Fluency with the React Native runtime and its JavaScript consumption model.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures and complexity.
  • Experience operating in ambiguous problem spaces at Staff-level scope and writing technical design documents.
  • Experience using AI agents in real work and understanding their implications for mobile and systems engineering.
  • Preferred experience with mature mobile architecture migrations, React Native or Expo contributions, and mobile CI/CD, release trains, or over-the-air updates.
