Responsibilities

Own architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS, and Android.
Build and ship the foundations of the new mobile platform, including performance, reliability, and observability capabilities.
Launch a React Native surface in production and provide stable platform primitives for product teams.
Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the migration to the new architecture.
Drive adoption across major product teams and establish trusted mobile platform patterns and standards.
Remain hands-on with difficult implementation details while providing technical direction across the organization.

Requirements

Experience building or significantly evolving a large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture in production.
Experience leading a meaningful migration of a mature, live mobile product to a new architecture.
Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams, including setting direction adopted by Staff-level engineers.
Experience shaping architecture, platforms, standards, or technical direction across multiple groups or a large engineering organization.
Strong hands-on engineering depth and judgment, including data structures, complexity, and system-level trade-offs.
Deep fundamentals across iOS and Android, including shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery, device performance, reliability, crash monitoring, and optimization.
Preferred experience with React Native and React internals, Rust or C/C++, React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, Expo, mobile release infrastructure, or open-source contributions.
Experience using AI tooling in real engineering work is a nice-to-have.
